Seattle Seahawks Training Camp Notes For July 25th
By Keith Myers
Here my notes from day one of training camp. I’m not there, but was watching the live feed of things, and talking with people who were present.
Pete Carroll must have ice in his blood. He was in long pant and long sleeves in the heat today. She was also sporting some “granddad style” white sneakers that completed a look that was uniquely Pete Carroll.

James Carpenter participated in all drills, and worked out with the first and 2nd units at times. He didn’t seem to get the same number of reps as the other starters as he returns from his knee injury, but the fact that he’s out there on day 1 is a big deal.
When the team went to 11 on 11 drills, Carpenter was at LG with the starters in the first rotation. Paul McQuistan was in there at LG for the 2nd rotation.
Percy Harvin isn’t playing. I still haven’t heard why.
Zach Miller didn’t practice today, so Luke Willson got reps with the 1st team. Miller missed the final offseason workout with a foot injury, and the assumption is that he was out today for the same reason.
Chris Clemons didn’t practice, but wasn’t expected to. He also didn’t work out with trainers, which was a bit of a surprise. He was out there with the D-line, but just watching. I’m assuming he’s doing his rehab after practice. instead of during, which is usually a sign that he’s close to participating.
Speaking of Clemons, he looks bigger in the upper body this year. He’s clearly been concentrating on lifting while he rehabs his knee.
Robert Turbin was also out. No idea why at the time of writing this.
Add rookie CB Tharold Simon to the list of those players who didn’t participate.
Marshawn Lynch went through some up the punch and rip move drills with the defensive linemen. There’s a reason he’s such a tough runner. I love that he does stuff like that.
Brady Quinn is a big guy for a QB. Much bigger than even Tarvaris Jackson. Not fat, I’m not saying that at all. Taller. Wider shoulders. Looks like a prototype for the position. If you knew absolutely nothing about Seattle QBs, and just looked at the 3 players, you’d think he was starter. I doubt me makes the team.
Rookie wide receiver Chris Harper is bigger than I thought he’d be, and I knew that he’s a very big guy for a WR.
One last name of guys who isn’t practicing: Korey Toomer. I think he could be very good if he can make the team, but he needs to get out there and practice to do that. Hopefully he’ll be playing soon.
Bruce Irvin and Earl Thomas cut off their dreads in the offseason. It’s a bit weird to see them w/o their hair. It’s going to take some getting used to.
2500 fans in attendance today. That’s the maximum the team allows.
All training camp practices are “sold out.” I put that in quotes since it’s free (except for the bussing charge form the practice lot at the Renton Landing), but all the spots are gone.
There is also a live feed that can be found at Seahawks.com. There was about 1200 people watching that for most of practice today.
