Harvin/Tate Fight: Don’t Act Surprised, You’d Punch Him Too

Of all the stories being leaked out of Renton, the Harvin punching Tate story was the least surprising. Look, Golden Tate was a solid receiver for Seattle. His situation in Detroit is great for him and the Lions. His sound bites can make people laugh and cause anger all at once. But let’s face it, Percy Harvin only did what many players want to.

I only write things I’m able to back up with facts. I was concerned that would be difficult here. Players say very little about teammates or the opposition to the media. You know, the code. But prima donna wide outs like Tate, given time, will show their true colors:

1. October 28, 2013 – Monday Night Football  Seahawks vs St. Louis. 80-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson. Well before the end zone Tate starts taunting Rams defenders. He scores, but barely.

Public Perception: JERK

2. September 24, 2012 – Monday Night Football  This may have been the officials fault (or not, as I believe), but the fact Golden Tate was on the Seahawks side of the “Fail Mary” made matters worse. Constantly calling Tate a liar, fans made it clear that the receivers version of the play can’t be trusted.

Public Perception: LIAR

3. 2014 Offseason, While Tate Was A Free Agent  Although there wasn’t confirmation from Tate or Wilson, rumors of an indiscretion gained speed once the receiver signed with the Lions. Things didn’t slow down after Wilson’s marriage ended. Blaming Golden Tate was just so easy. Remember, there is nothing that proves Tate did this. And I personally didn’t view the former Mrs. Russell Wilson as the world’s worst decision maker. So I doubt this is true. But, as we know, if Tate is said to be involved it’s easier for people to believe.

Public Perception: Cad

Don’t misunderstand. I don’t condone violence of any kind. I’m only pointing out that few eyebrows were raised after hearing Percy Harvin punched Golden Tate prior to the Super Bowl. After some research, it seems Harvin’s punch satisfied a lot of Tate haters, fans and players alike.

All that said, Golden Tate was a productive player in a Seahawks uniform. On the field, the guy is missed.

GO HAWKS!
