4. Pernell McPhee, Chicago Bears
Contract: 5 years, $38.75 million
McPhee probably ranks extremely high on the “best player you’ve never heard of” list. He is an incredible pass rusher. He is easily one of the best in the NFL right now at getting after the QB. He’s only 26 years old, and is still trending upward as a professional.
The Bears got McPhee for what amounts to a steal. They’ll have him for his prime years in the NFL, and at a contract level that is well below market value.
3. Jordan Cameron, Miami Dolphins
Contract: 2 years, $15 million
Cameron has shown throughout his career that he is one of the best tight ends in the league, but concussions have put that career in jeopardy. The Dolphins were able to get Cameron under contract for what is actually a one year, $5.5 million deal.
If Cameron can stay healthy in 2015, then he is under contract for 2016 with a comparable salary to what the Jaguars gave Julius Thomas. If he cannot, then they just move on and they don’t owe him another penny. It is a great low-risk, high reward deal for the Dolphins.
