Overrated: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
Probably the most overrated prospect in the entire draft is presumed No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston out of Florida State. While there is a lot to like with Winston, there are also plenty of red flags, and that is before we consider all of the off-field concerns.
It all starts with the basic throwing mechanics for Winston. His basic throwing motion is long and uneven. Winston’s mechanics aren’t Tim Tebow-bad, but they are still problematic. Winston is also a long-strider when he throws, and needs a clean pocket to deliver the ball accurately, and those are rare in the NFL.
This isn’t meant to bury Winston as a prospect. His tape is still solid for the most part. He just isn’t a slam-dunk prospect. His success in NFL is far-from guaranteed, and that isn’t a good sign if you’re taking him with the first overall selection.
