Round 3: Russell Wilson
Another current player, and one that is only headed into his fourth season, but Wilson seems to be the exception to every rule. It doesn’t hurt Wilson’s case that Seattle’s third-round draft history is fairly poor. Linebacker Michael Jackson and wide receiver Darrell Jackson are the only other players in the conversation here.
Besides, Wilson has been the franchise quarterback from day 1, and has led to the team to its only Super Bowl win. Throw in three Pro-Bowl selections in three years (He hasn’t been able to play in two because the Seahawks have been in the Super Bowl, but I don’t think he minds) and you have an amazing resume for a guy taken in the third round.
There are very few players in the history of the entire NFL that have Wilson’s combination of work ethic, charisma and talent.
Honorable Mention: Michael Jackson, Darrell Jackson
Round 2: Kevin Mawae
The Seahawks selected Mawae in the second round of the 1994 draft. Mawae played just four seasons with the Seahawks before the team decided it couldn’t afford to re-sign him and let him leave in free agency.
Mawae spent most of his career in New York with the Jets and finished up in Tennessee with the Titans. Mawae had an incredible 15-year career that included eight Pro Bowls and three first team All-Pro selections.
An honorable mention for this spot goes to current Seahawks middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner picked up his first All-Pro section last season. If he stays heathy, he could easily overtake Mawae as Seattle’s best second round pick ever before he retires.
Honorable Mentions: Brian Blades, Bobby Wagner
