How He Fits With The Seahawks: OG Kristjan Sokoli

facebooktwitterreddit

As we’ve seen the sample size grow for the Seahawks over the last 5 years, we can see trends, core organizational beliefs, things we can come to expect as they work through each draft.  We know they value speed and “unique” players, and they aren’t afraid to think outside the box in terms of not what a player HAS been but what he COULD be. And what 6th round pick Kristjan Sokoli could be is the next J.R. Sweezy.

Like Sweezy, Sokoli played Defensive Line in college, at Buffalo, but when the Seahawks turned in his draft card they listed him as a Guard.

MEASUREABLES/SCOUTING REPORT:

You can see the appeal.  Despite his small-school background, Sokoli is a freak of an athlete for his size.  At 6’5″ 300lbs, he ran 4.84 in the 40, with a 38″ vertical, and is the highest rated SPARQ Sigma athlete ever rated. He’s also known for his football acumen and devotion to the game, which should bode well in his attempt to change positions.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING:

HOW HE FITS:

Clearly, there’s a lot to be excited about with Sokoli’s physical gifts, but trying to teach a player an entirely new position on the job is a risky proposition.  But we know how good Tom Cable is at this, and if Sokoli he isn’t ready to use a roster spot on by September, they’ll hope to sneak him onto the practice squad until he develops.

If he does, the irony of this pick is Sokoli could eventually replace exactly the player he’ll be looking to emulate, when Sweezy’s contract is up after this season.
