No Chance Russell Wilson leaves the Seattle Seahawks
By Keith Myers
It was only a matter of time before someone started writing nonsense about Russell Wilson leaving the Seahawks next season. Apparently that time is here, and it is as nauseatingly annoying as I expected it to be.
It is as if people have never heard of the franchise tag before. Well, last time I checked it still exists (it does, don’t worry). Russell Wilson cannot leave the Seahawks for four more seasons: one more year on his contract, and three years of the franchise tag.
That is why “reports” like this are only worth ignoring. Wilson isn’t going anywhere. Implying otherwise is disingenuous.
The key with reports like that is to remember where the information is coming form. In this case, it is an entirely unsourced opinion of media troll Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.
No one in Wilson’s camp thinks this will happen. No one with the Seahawks thinks this will happen. The only person who thinks Wilson will be gone is a guy whose job involves making things up to try and drive clicks on his website.
Of course, actual reporters with real sources have already countered Florio’s nonsense. If you want o know what is really going on, I suggest reading CBSSports’ Jason LaConfora’s piece from earlier this week.
So feel free to step back away from the ledge. Don’t be fooled into jumping when there no reason for worry.
Wilson will get paid. The Seattle Seahawks will be the ones to pay him. You might as well sit back and enjoy the show.
