Marshawn Lynch telling friends he plans to retire
By Keith Myers
According to a report, Marshawn Lynch plans to retire. It is an obvious move for him, but a major loss for fans of the game.
Adam Schefter is reporting that Marshawn Lynch has begun telling his friends in the NFL that he is going to retire. This isn’t a surprise, but it still a bit sad to hear that such a great player is hanging his cleats up for good.
For the Seahawks, this changes nothing. Lynch was done in Seattle anyways. This is Russel Wilson’s team now, and Thomas Rawls is starting RB. Lynch was going to be cut if he didn’t retire. The Seahawks need the cap space.
That stuff doesn’t matter today though. The NFL will be a far-less interesting place without Lynch in it. He was one of the coolest guys the league has ever seen.
From his awesome one-word press sessions, to his velvet rope around his Lamborghini, to his amazing appearances on a Conon, Lynch was as entertaining off the field as he was on it.
On the field, Beast Mode was one of the best and most physical running backs the league has ever had. He may not have the stats to make it into the Hall of Fame, but anyone who watched him run know he deserves to that honor.
This is probably the best way for Lynch to go out. I’d rather see him retire a Seahawk while still mostly effective.
Seeing a shadow of Shaun Alexander play poorly for Washington after leaving Seattle was depressing. Having Lynch go out like that would be painful.
Still, the an NFL without Lynch will be entirely less fun than it was with him. He will certainly be missed.
