De’runnya Wilson

Wilson is an early entry draft candidate out of Mississippi State. He caught 60 balls for 918 yards and 10 TD’s his junior year. At 6’4″ and 215 pounds he certainly looks the part, and on tape there are plenty of examples of him going up to high point the ball, snatching it cleanly. He’s a physical player, not afraid of contact and capable of going over the middle. A long, strider, he’s not sudden off the snap but quick enough for his size. What Wilson needs is refinement and polish. He’s not an accomplished route runner at this point, but there’s a lot to work with. Right now he’s projected as a third round pick by DraftScout. The Seahawks will have two 3rd round picks once compensatory selections are officially announced in a couple weeks (they will net a 3rd based on the contract Byron Maxwell signed with Philadelphia in the offseason.) Would they use such a high pick on a player who needs significant time to develop? If they think he could contribute as a rookie in any way, at least in certain red zone packages, taking a player with as high a ceiling as Wilson could be tempting.

He does come with some baggage, however, as he was arrested last spring and investigated for marijuana possession. His interviews at the combine could be a key.
