Duron Carter

Remember last year when Carter tried to encourage a “bidding war” among NFL teams? After two stellar seasons in the CFL, Chris Carter’s son visited with a number of teams before finally signing a 3 year deal with the Colts for…… $1.5 million. So much for the bidding war. And so much for instant NFL stardom. Carter didn’t catch a pass for Indianapolis, was released in September, and finished the year on the practice squad. After the season ended, the Colts didn’t even offer Carter a futures contract and he became a free agent again. He then signed a one year deal to return to the Montreal Allouettes.

At first glance, Carter looks every bit the part of potential star with the right development. He’s 6’5″ 205 pounds and runs a 4.5 second 40 yard dash. You might think his highlight tape would be filled with jumps balls, but watch at the 1:20 mark as he takes a short pass and flashes outstanding ability in the open field.

So what happened in Indianapolis? He was dogged by maturity and work ethic issues as he bounced around to four colleges, explaining why he went undrafted, but his GM and coaches in Montreal spoke highly of him and clearly wanted him back. Maybe the Colts just didn’t have enough time to give him a proper look as they were dealing with myriad issues on and off the field in 2015. What’s unknown is whether his current deal with the Allouettes would allow for him to leave if he got an NFL offer.

All these WR’s come from different walks of life with varying degrees of potential, but they all have this in common; they’re all high upside, low risk candidates to fill that long-coveted role of big target in the Seahawks offense.
