Mitch Mathews

Want a tall receiver in this draft? Why not take a shot at the tallest? In fact, Mitch Mathews nickname is “Too Tall.” The 6’6″ BYU product isn’t projected to be drafted, but might be a steal as an undrafted free agent, and we KNOW how much the Seahawks love their UDFA’s.

You may all remember Mathews as the guy who caught the last-second Hail Mary to beat Nebraska in the season opener for both teams last year, but that play doesn’t even begin to show his potential. He caught that ball in his belly, unlike the rest of his highlight reel. Play after play you see Mathews doing exactly what you want from a taller WR, going up and snatching the ball out of the air over his defender. Check out the catch at the :33 mark. He actually mistimes his jump, but still extends his arms and makes the grab high over the DB as he’s going down.

He isn’t going to light up the clock with his 40 yard dash time, and as a BYU grad who served a mission, he’ll be an overaged rookie. But Mathews sheer size and ability to go up and get the ball would make him a no-brainer to bring to camp as an undrafted free agent.
