Andy Janovich, FB, Nebraska

Derrick Coleman is facing possible jail time. Will Tukuafu is no longer on the roster. The Seahawks need a lead blocker. Luckily there are a few interesting ones in this year’s draft. It is also fortunate for Seattle that they aren’t highly valued, so good ones like Nebraska’s Andy Janocich will still be available late in round 7.

Janovich is a bit on the small size for a FB, but he has room on his frame to add the mass he needs. He has good speed and agility to go along with good vision. Add in decent hands and pass blocking skills and you end up with a guy that could easily carve out a role for the Seahawks.

Vernon Adams, QB, Oregon

There is this annoying trend in the draft media to find “the next Russell Wilson.” Wilson is unique, so the entire idea is extremely annoying. One such player to get that label has been Oregon’s Vernon Adams.

Sure, he short; he runs well; and he throws a great deep ball. They’re exactly the same, right?… right?

Ok, enough joking. While it is easy to see why people might compare the two, Adams isn’t Wilson. He doesn’t have Wilson’s large hands, or his over-the-top delivery, or his cannon arm, or his ultra-quick release. He also is coming out of a spread system, and doesn’t have Wilson’s mastery of reading a defense.

What Adams does have is a great work ethic, tremendous escapability (a must behind Seattle’s terrible offensive line) and great accuracy at all three levels. It’ll take time for him to adjust to the complexity of the NFL, but he does have the tools to do so.
