Seahawks Draft Prospect Profile, OT Cole Toner
By Dan Viens
With the NFL Draft less than a month away, we take an up-close look at some prospects who might fit well with the Seattle Seahawks.
The NFL Draft is fast approaching and teams all around the NFL are working furiously to put together their draft boards. For the Seahawks, this is a crucial year for GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll. The last couple of drafts have produced more depth than superstars, but with their high-priced young core now causing annual salary cap constraints, they find themselves needing to hit on a couple starter-quality players this time around.
So let’s take a look at some players who may appear to be a fit in Seattle, regardless of round.
COLE TONER, OT, Harvard
SPECS:
- Height – 6’5″
- Weight – 305 lbs
- Arms – 33 1/8″″
- 40 yard dash – 5.32
STRENGTHS:
Solid all-around skill set. Shows aggressiveness in his pass protection, using his hands to get good initial punch. Good enough feet to move laterally and get to second level in run game. First team All Ivy League his junior and senior years, and chosen to play in the Senior Bowl.

WEAKNESSES:
Level of competition in the Ivy League is an obvious concern, although he practiced against current Colts OLB Zach Hodges for two years. Core strength and power a question mark.
HOW HE WOULD FIT WITH THE SEAHAWKS:
Toner started for four years at right tackle at Harvard, and one scouting report refers to him as “only a right tackle” at the next level. Well….the Seahawks need a right tackle, don’t they? Here’s one particular piece of analysis that caught my eye, however. From the guys at NFLDraftScout.com comes this little nugget: “Toner…..possessing the quickness and technique to fit best in a zone-blocking scheme.”

He may not be the biggest name, and Toner certainly has questions to answer about being able to make the leap from Ivy League to the NFL. But he held acquitted himself well at the Senior Bowl, and he’s consistently rated as a 4th rounder in this draft. Don’t sleep on Cole Toner.
