Strong Safety

Starter: Kam Chancellor

Backup: Kelcie McCray

After his “contract injury” a year ago, Kam Chancellor returned and had a sub-par season. He’s vowed not to let that happen again, so he’ll be reporting to camp on time this year.

Chancellor is throwback player from a earlier, more physical NFL. There’s no safety in the NFL today that hits like he does. He’s a tone-setter for the entire defense, as well as one of the team’s captains.

When Chancellor was hurt at the end of last season, Kelcie McCray stepped in and played admirably. While he lacks Chancellor’s leadership skills and physicality, McCray is actually the better of the two in coverage.
