As other NFL teams cut their rosters to 53 players, the Seattle GM John Schneider will be combing the waiver wire for possible pickups. Here, we’ll point out guys who might be of interest to the Seahawks.

The Seahawks have always been active right after the cut to 53, and Schneider says they’ll look hard at the available players again this year.

Teams have until tomorrow to announce their final cuts, but some have already begun the process. We will update when new names become available.

DONALD BUTLER – OLB, ARIZONA

Butler was a 3rd round pick in San Diego and established himself as a productive player and team leader, racking up 268 tackles and 7 sacks during his 5 seasons with the Chargers. Since then he’s battled injuries and was released today by the Arizona Cardinals. He’s still just 27 years old and if there’s anything left in the tank would be a huge upgrade over the spot Eric Pinkins appears to have the inside track on.

KROY BIERMANN – DE, BUFFALO

Biermann is 30 now, but the Seahawks clearly had some designs on Chris Clemons playing a role on this team as a rotational end before he decided to retire just before the start of training camp. Biermann is a high motor, intense player who has 23.5 career sacks.

AUSTIN DAVIS – QB, CLEVELAND

This is a name I missed on my look at who the Hawks might target as a possible upgrade to Trevone Boykin. Davis has a lot of qualities that fit the zone-read system Russell Wilson runs, and has 10 career NFL starts, and even beat the Seahawks when he was with the Rams in 2014.

Dallas worked him out this week as they look for a quality backup with Tony Romo injured and rookie Dak Prescott starting, but haven’t signed him yet.

AARON MURRAY – QB, KANSAS CITY

I’ve talked about Murray as a possible Boykin-upgrade target. The Chiefs loaded up on young quality QB’s behind Alex Smith (Tyler Bray, Nick Foles, Kevin Hogan), but Murray has shown in preseason games he can really throw the ball. One of the most productive college QB’s in the last 20 years, throwing for 3,000 yards all four years at Georgia.
