The Seahawks and Texans played a great football game on Sunday. Unfortunately, one team had to lose. Thankfully for 12s, that team was not the Seahawks. Seattle won 41-38.

The Seahawks won. Exhale. What a game! What a ridiculous and beautiful and thrilling and amazing game. Just when Seattle seemed on the verge of losing, they won. Isn’t this Seahawks football? But this is Seattle football to the greatest extreme.

The Seahawks were out of timeouts. They needed to go 80 yards. Seattle had to have a touchdown. This after rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson had played brilliantly in leading his Texans to a lead with 1:39 left in the fourth quarter. Russell Wilson had just thrown an interception on Seattle’s last drive.

Not that Wilson had played badly all game; he hadn’t. In fact, he was just as great as Watson, if not better. The one interception Wilson threw was his only blemish on the day. He finished 26 of 41 for 452 yards and four touchdowns.

And though the offensive line could not run block to save its job (Seattle running backs gained a total of three yards running), that same line was very good in pass protection when it needed to be. Wilson had plenty of time on each of Seattle’s last two drives and was able to position the Seahawks to score.

Watson, of course, showed that he will be a great quarterback in the NFL for years. He ended up throwing three interceptions, two to Richard Sherman and one pick six to Earl Thomas. But besides that, he led his team with poise and was accurate on his throws. For instance, any time you can throw three picks and still have a quarterback rating at 106.9, that quarterback knows he has done something well.

Four receivers in the game had more than 100 yards receiving. DeAndre Hopkins (224) and Will Fuller (125) of the Texans and Tyler Lockett (121) and Paul Richardson (105) of the Seahawks. And though Jimmy Graham was invisible for most of the game, he was huge in the fourth quarter. Graham caught two touchdown passes in the last 5:37 of the game.

Seattle’s defense, though it gave up yards and points, still made plays. Thomas, of course, had the pick six in the first quarter when the Texans may have been driving for a 14-0 lead.

Frank Clark had two sacks. Michael Bennett had 1.5. Richard Sherman had a bad first half but came up with two interceptions in the second half, including the one that ended the game. Linebackers K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner had 26 tackles among them.

Overall, though, it was a great game played between two good teams. Both teams made several mistakes so it wasn’t perfect. But if you are a Seahawks fan, it was as close to perfect as could be.
