The Seahawks are making moves that seem to degrade the team in 2018. The hope is, at least for 12s, is that the team will be better in 2019 and beyond. What else would be the need for all the moves? Here are three more that could happen.

So, the Seahawks are starting over? Not exactly. There is enough talent still in Seattle to make the team competitive in 2018. The issue for Seattle is that NFC West rivals the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers are getting better fast. And the Arizona Cardinals are not that bad.

Seattle still has Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin. And even Earl Thomas. For now. Wagner and Wilson and (probably) Baldwin are untouchables. But Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors aplenty. He could be moved before or during the NFL draft.

Trading Thomas, after losing Michael Bennett and Richard Sherman, etc., means the defense will be nowhere near the same. And defense has made the Seahawks who they are. Which is to say, playoff-, if not Super Bowl-, contenders for the last several seasons.

What’s more is that there are thoughts that even Wilson could go sooner rather than later. And if Wilson can be traded, why not anyone else on the team? If Seattle is willing to go that far, then this is truly a new era.

Exactly what Pete Carroll and John Schneider are thinking is anyone’s guess. Which normally could mean good things. But now is a good time for an 12 to be nervous. Does Seattle have the right offensive coordinator? Or the correct defensive coordinator? So many questions.

Here are three things that could doom the franchise for many seasons to come.
