Marcus Trufant may not go down as the best cornerback in Seattle history, but he certainly found a way to bring value to the franchise during his 10 years in town. In essence, he was the one who ushered in the Legion of Boom era, so we could call him a pioneer.

Now, realistically, Trufant was only a part of that group for a year or two. During that time, he mainly served as a backup while Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner held the starting roles. Still, he spent those couple of seasons serving as the invaluable veteran presence and mentor for the gaggle of rising stars.

Before that, though, Trufant was a star in his own right.

Despite only having one Pro Bowl nod to his name, Trufant epitomized the steady, dependable cornerback of the mid-2000s. Through his first six seasons in Seattle, he missed only two games while intercepting 17 passes. His effort and consistency held to build the foundation for what eventually became the NFL’s best secondary.

To top it all off, Trufant was a hometown hero of sorts for the Seahawks. Born in Tacoma and having spent his college career at Washington State, he was right at home with the Seahawks. That helped him become a fan favorite, both for his local roots and outstanding play.
