Seahawks are going 4-12 according to USA Today. What?!

USA Today, a national newspaper, says the Seahawks are not going to be very good this year. USA Today is terribly wrong.

Look, I get it. The Seahawks could possibly not be as good as they have these last several seasons. 2018 might be a tough year. Or it could not. The team still has lots of talent. In fact, on paper, Seattle has more talent that the San Francisco 49ers or Arizona Cardinals, two NFC West rivals. So what is USA Today thinking with their prediction Seattle will go 4-12?

I could be sarcastic here and just say the writer of USA Today’s prediction – Nate Davis – did an excellent job. Because, in a way, he did. Every site – this one, USA Today, the New York Times – wants readers. That is how websites, newspapers, writers, etc., generate revenue.

And Mr. Davis certainly generated some hits for his article, at least from Seattle fans. There’s our link to his column right there! But Davis does not just have Seattle going 4-12, he also has them finishing last in their division. As Davis says, the Seahawks roster is “crumbling.”

But is it really? Davis does imply Russell Wilson is pretty good. But that is about it. Crumbling? And 4-12? This is still a team that has on its roster Bobby Wagner (possibly the best linebacker in the NFL), Earl Thomas (possibly the best safety in the league) and Doug Baldwin. Could Seattle use improvement in some areas? Of course. Every team in the NFL could.

Next: Other silly Seahawks rumors...

There is no real reason to take the USA Today column seriously. Maybe Seattle won’t win the Super Bowl for the 2018 season. Or who knows? Maybe they will. But I guarantee you, there is no way the Seahawks finish last in their division and certainly don’t finish 4-12. Not with Wilson at quarterback and Wagner on defense.
