Seahawks still relevant in NFC West, for now at least

The Rams are already at least two games ahead of everyone else in the NFC West. The Seahawks will change that one way or another on Sunday.

I misled you a little with that lead-in. Whatever the Seahawks do on Sunday – win or lose – the Rams will either see their lead in the NFC West increase or decrease. Seattle is the only other team in the division with at least a .500 record.

To be honest, everyone, 12s included, expect the Rams to win Sunday. This means that five games into the 2018 season, Los Angeles would lead the NFC West by three games. The San Francisco 49ers are 1-3. The Arizona Cardinals are still trying to win their first game.

But if the Russell Wilson-led Seahawks could defeat the Jared Goff-led Rams? Stranger things have happened. Heck, stranger things have happened this NFL season. Take the Bills versus the Vikings, for example.

Of course, Seattle will be without Earl Thomas for the rest of forever, so the Rams might be in an even more advantageous situation Sunday. Or maybe Tedric Thompson will have an incredible game and we will never mourn the day we lost Thomas?

The other NFC West teams play each other this weekend too. Seattle would be no worse than tied for second (way way way back in second place) with a loss.

Vegas says Seattle will lose to Rams in week five. dark. Next

But a win over the Rams would do wonders for morale and playoff hopes in Seattle. If Seattle can run the ball consistently, the would keep the Rams offense off the field. And again, anything can happen on any given Sunday. The Seahawks will be playing to win.
