Seahawks grades versus Chargers in unsettling loss

Offense
Quarterback
Russell Wilson had his worst game of the year. Or at least it was tied with the Bears game in week two. In each game Wilson had a quarterback rating of 89.3. Wilson also had a pick-six in each game. Both interceptions were horrible, though the one against the Chargers might be worse.
Wilson took two bad sacks when he held on to the ball far too long. And he missed an open Jaron Brown on a key third down and the pass could have resulted in a touchdown. Wilson has to be better for Seattle to make the playoffs. It is a team game, of course, but the blame for Sunday’s loss can be heavily attributed to the Seahawks quarterback.

Running backs
Carson leaving the game so early affected this grade. In limited time, Carson averaged five yards per carry. He looked strong and moved piles and picked up first downs. Mike Davis picked up 62 yards on 15 carries but it was just enough to make any 12 wonder how well Carson would have done. Rashaad Penny played a bunch too but gained only 11 yards on four carries. Penny did have three receptions, though.
Grade: B-
Wide receivers/tight end
This group’s numbers would have been much more had Wilson been more accurate. Still, there was just one explosive play as Doug Baldwin caught a pass for 42 yards. After that the next longest was 11 yards. Not good. Nick Vannett had a solid game with six catches.
Grade: C
Offensive line
The line’s performance wasn’t great but looks worse because of Wilson taking those two bad sacks. If Wilson throws the ball away, the line gives up just two real sacks. And Seattle still ran for 154 yards. Of course, the line had to realign after Fluker’s injury and with no Carson what we saw was a watered down version of how well the line has played the last several weeks.
