Seahawks grades from tough loss to Rams in week 10
By Lee Vowell
Offense
Quarterback
Russell Wilson ran a bunch and did so effectively against the Rams. Wilson needed to run more than he has and he looked like the Wilson of 2014. He finished with 92 yards on bootlegs or scrambles and his feet allowed Seattle to sustain drives.
Wilson was sacked four times, but none of these were really his fault as opposed to other games. And he fumbled once but that was on a strip that Wilson couldn’t have avoided. He also finished with three touchdown passes and a quarterback rating of 123.2.
Grade: A-
Running backs
Rashaad Penny finally got a chance to play a bunch and he did really well. Penny became the their Seahawks back to cross the 100 yard mark in a game in 2018. He ran for 108 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.
Mike Davis had a solid game too with 58 yards on 11 carries. Davis also had a touchdown catch.
Grade: B+
Wide receivers/tight ends
The receivers overall are still struggling with separation and creating big plays. Only Tyler Lockett seems to be able to do so consistently. And Lockett had another touchdown reception – his seventh of the season – against the Rams.
Doug Baldwin caught every one of his targets (all five of them) but only had 39 yards receiving total. Ed Dickson had a nice catch to help set up a touchdown and Nick Vannett caught his second touchdown pass in as many games.
Grade: B
Offensive line
Duane Brown and company did allow Wilson to be sacked four times, but many of these were on obvious passing downs. And Germain Ifedi who has been playing much better this year did have two bad penalties.
But it is tough to say bad things about a group that allowed the Seahawks to run for 273 yards and average 8 yards a carry. And not all of this was Wilson scrambling. Davis averaged 5.3 yards a rush and Penny was 9 yards per.
Grade: B
Seattle’s offense produced 29 first downs and 414 total yards against the Rams. I would like to say these numbers are significant, but the Los Angeles defense isn’t good overall. But Seattle’s offense has improved a lot since the first two games of the season.
