Defense

Defensive line

There was a while in Sunday’s game where Jarran Reed and Frank Clark had a combined zero tackles. These two have been the only consistent players Seattle has had on the line. But the Rams did a good job on both.

Dion Jordan chimed in with a half-sack and Quinton Jefferson had three tackles and a sack.

Clark did eventually have half-a-sack and Reed a tackle for loss. But the line is not very talented and Jared Goff had lots of time to throw. And the Rams averaged 6.5 yards per carry.

Grade: C-

Linebackers

Bobby Wagner had 13 tackles, including 10 by himself. He’s a great player even if he isn’t having his best season. But K.J. Wright simply doesn’t seem like himself. He appears to still be trying to recover from his preseason knee surgery. Seattle would have been better had Mychal Kendricks not gotten suspended.

The linebackers big issue was in pass coverage as the Rams had many times the entire middle of the field to throw in.

Grade: C-

Secondary

For the most part, Seattle’s defensive backs were overwhelmed by the scheme of the Rams. Goff had time to throw and open receivers seemingly all game. The Seahawks definitely have some talent but the secondary is very young and was overmatched.

Shaquill Griffin may have played the best of any member of the group. But he wasn’t good enough to keep the Rams from scoring in the 30s again either.

Grade: D+

The defense is still too young and lacks the talent of recent years to carry Seattle by itself to many victories. Ken Norton has done a good job with what he has, though. Seattle is limited with personnel and will need to exceed expectations on defense for the team to make the playoffs.
