One of these Seahawks mock drafts is frankly insane

Nope, Hockenson will not be on the Seahawks

No, no, 1,000 times no, the Seahawks won’t draft a TE at 21

I’m not disputing that Hockenson is a good player. He caught 49 passes, six for touchdowns, so he’s definitely a receiving target. He’s the top tight end on most boards. He’d be a great addition for the Seahawks. Except that they already have Will Dissly, Nick Vannett, and Ed Dickson. Could Hockenson be a better receiver? Probably. But if you somehow think the one position the Hawks need to address to get them back to the Super Bowl is the tight end…I don’t think you can be helped. To be fair, the rest of the picks are sensible…but that first-rounder – gahh!

The three current players combined for 49 catches; not so good compared to the college kid who caught the same number in three fewer games, right? Except that the Seahawks trio nabbed eight touchdowns. I left out the contributions of Tyrone Swoopes and George Fant as they’re not in the mix as starters, but they chipped in 32 yards on two catches.

Assume Hockenson doesn’t skip a beat and stays at his same level in the NFL. That’s 60 catches and seven touchdowns. We gain some yards and lose one score. Even if he gained a couple of touchdowns, how on earth is that worth a first-round pick? Would Hockenson be a valuable addition? Of course. But the Hawks have a few more pressing needs to attend.

Ed Dickson: more than a pretty blocker. dark. Next

Compare that to adding to a defensive unit that only had two players with more than three sacks. Is that marginal improvement what you want for your precious first round pick? I think the secondary is better than many others believe, but it isn’t the Legion of Boom, either. The tight end position is one of the few on the Seahawks that doesn’t need to be addressed. One thing for sure; that site gave me a lot more confidence to suggest the Hawks draft a kicker in the first round. Oh no; it’s contagious!
