Pick 129: Seattle Seahawks select Maxx Crosby, Edge Eastern Michigan

The Seahawks were in desperate need of edge rushers before they traded Frank Clark. Now that they have, they need to add multiple rushers. This late in the draft, you are taking flyers on guys you hope you can develop into something more.

Maxx Crosby is one of those guys. Three Sigma Athlete, who uses testing to determine the best athletes at each position in the upcoming draft, ranked Crosby as the 5th most athletic edge player in this draft. He ranks in the 88th percentile of all NFL players and the athletic traits flash on tape.

Crosby needs to add strength to become an every-down end. He is tall and lanky and posted good numbers at Eastern Michigan. In 2018, he posted 70 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 4 pass defense, and 4 forced fumbles.

At this stage, he is more athlete than a football player, but regardless of the level of competition he faced, his production and athleticism cannot be ignored. For now, he reminds me a bit of Cassius Marsh.

Marsh has become a solid rotational piece, and Crosby should have no issue reaching that level. If he can add strength and fix some of his fundamentals like his pad level, Crosby could be more. For now, he is a high upside fourth round that coaches can dream on.
