4 Seahawks that must improve in 2019 for Seattle to make playoffs
By Lee Vowell
Shaquill Griffin
12s are all hoping Seattle didn’t make a huge mistake in letting Richard Sherman go and replacing him with Shaquill Griffin. There are several reasons for this.
One, Griffin is simply expected to be a top corner in the NFL. He has been taught by the greatest secondary coach ever, Pete Carroll, and Griffin has the athletic ability to be good. Letting Sherman, who was clearly one of the best corners in the NFL during his time in Seattle, go and not replace him with another good corner hurts Seattle’s defensive philosophy greatly.
Two, Sherman had a nastiness to his game that Griffin doesn’t yet seem to. Griffin can be a good tackler but Sherman excelled at tackling and hit you like the 6’3″ corner he was. Sherman didn’t just want to win the game, he wanted to opposing team to be emotionally hurt during the loss. Griffin needs to find it within himself to defeat the heart and soul of another team.
Three, the Griffin brothers – Shaquill and Shaquem – are simply a good story. Not from a football standpoint only, but from a human standpoint. Both are likable guys with big smiles and friendly faces. A fan wants to pull for them. So let’s hope Shaquill is great in 2019, otherwise Tre Flowers might take his position at left cornerback in 2020.
