Jaron Brown

Guess who just got a whole lot more important for the Seahawks? That would be Jaron Brown. Brown was signed in 2018 to be a big target that Seattle was missing. True, he wasn’t expected to get tons of targets but he was supposed to help in the red zone and maybe stretch the field a bit.

Mostly, though, Brown was invisible. Seriously. Did you know he played in all 16 games last year? But the fault of being unseen and unaffecting does not totally fall on Brown’s shoulders. Seattle may simply not have used him enough.

In 16 regular season games, Brown was targets 19 times. He caught 14 of those passes. And five (seriously, five!) went for touchdowns. I am not saying Brown would have been an All-Pro receiver had Seattle thrown to him more but maybe the Seahawks should at least have taken that chance. Five touchdown catches in 14 receptions is pretty great.

Brown won’t replace the production lost when Doug Baldwin was released and then retired. He isn’t that kind of receiver. But Seattle’s receiving corps is so young the team will need Brown to use his veteran know-how to get open, pick up some more targets and then translate those catches into more touchdowns. Brown will be needed in 2019.
