Seahawks Russell Wilson will be a steal in Fantasy Football

The Seattle Seahawks will kick off their regular season in less than 100 days. And as week one approaches, so too do your fantasy football drafts.

Most fantasy football leagues are months away from drafting, and things can change quickly. But one of the weirdest trends in the game right now is the undervaluing of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

Fantasy Football Calculator currently has Wilson’s ADP (average draft position) as the 73rd pick. That equates to the late 6th or early 7th round area. But perhaps most shocking is that Wilson is currently the 7th QB off the board, even behind Baker Mayfield.

Now look, I like Baker as much as any non-Cleveland Browns fan. But to draft Mayfield ahead of Wilson is insane. In fact, Fantasy Football Calculator says Mayfield is being drafted 18 picks before Wilson on average.

But let’s focus on Russell. What makes him good value at 73? His consistency, high touchdown numbers, and low turnover rate. And as a bonus, he is still good for at least 300 yards rushing. Last year, Wilson threw 35 TDs to 7 interceptions and scored 19 or more fantasy points (ESPN standard) in 11 of 15 games (assuming you don’t play Week 17 like most leagues).

These numbers are good enough for ESPN to rank Russell 12th at the position. Their current projections have Wilson losing 8 touchdowns passes because…Well, I’m not really sure. Of course, Doug Baldwin is retired, but Baldwin was limited all season last year and Wilson still produced.

Now Wilson’s upside is limited by the offense he plays in, at least in theory. But Wilson played in the same offense last year and he finished 9th in fantasy points and was just 1 point-a-week away from finishing 6th.

The Seahawks aren’t going to run the ball significantly more than 2018, so where are the 8 TDs coming from? Either way, selecting Russell Wilson in the 7th versus Mayfield in the 5th is an insane way to build your squad in 2019.

Think of it this way, would you rather have Tarik Cohen and Wilson? Or Mayfield and Rashaad Penny? As always, the real question of Wilson’s value comes down to the league you play in. If you are the only Seahawks fan in the league, take advantage of this bizarre opportunity.

dark. Next. 4 Seahawks that must improve in 2019

But if you play in a Seahawks fan league as I do, use this argument to jack up the price on Russell so somebody actually overdrafts him. Russell Wilson is going to be really good in 2019. If your fantasy league is going to make the mistake so many already have, take advantage and have fun.
