Ranking Seahawks five best players on the 2019 roster
By Lee Vowell
Number three: Michael Dickson
Now, before you give me grief for having a punter as the third best member of the Seahawks remember this: Michael Dickson was drafted in 2018 to be a defensive weapon. Dickson’s job was and is to help a young defense by putting opponents deep in their own territory. He did just that. The defense didn’t always keep opponents pinned, but that isn’t Dickson’s fault, of course.

In Dickson’s rookie season, he was named First-Team All-Pro by the AP. He was second in the NFL in yards-per-punt after being ranked first for a lot of the season. Dickson was sixth in net-yards-per-punt but was just .2 of a yard from ranking third.

Dickson also took one memorable risk that helped Seattle seal a win when he ran for a first down against the Lions. While Dickson getting a bunch of carries should not be the norm, this play showed that Dickson does not just want to stand there and kick; He wants to help his team win.
Maybe Dickson doesn’t make too many tackles and doesn’t catch the ball (yet) or throw the ball (again, yet), but he is the third best player on the Seattle roster because he is the best player at his position in the league. He was drafted to help Seattle win football games simply by punting and he has done that and will continue to do that for seasons to come.
