Secondary

Cornerbacks

Starters: Shaquill Griffin, Tre Flowers and Akeem King

Backups: Ugo Amadi and Neiko Thorpe

Cuts: Jamar Taylor, Kalan Reed, among others

Deep breath. Cornerbacks used to be a huge strength for the Seahawks and the talent is there to be again. But Griffin was not very good last year and admitted to as much. Flowers looked better than Griffin did last year after Flowers transitioned from college safety to NFL corner. This is actually a good thing. Flowers could be even better with another year of coaching. If Griffin can improve, Seattle could be good at corner again.

Amadi and King might be in an early season fight for nickelback but I give the edge to King now for his experience and what he showed in limited reps last year.

Thorpe is a special teams star and will probably be a Seahawk for the next 834 years. He is a decent backup corner too.

Safety

Starters: Bradley McDougald and Tedric Thompson

Backups: Marquise Blair and Lano Hill

Cuts: Shalom Luani and DeShawn Shead

Safety is just as big a question mark as corner. McDougald is the only proven player. Thompson has been better in training camp and is clearly fighting for his position. It says something about him that he is.

But eventually, Blair will play next to McDougald. The question about Blair is how quickly he can pick up the defensive calls after missing some time with an injury.
