Paxton Lynch and Jazz Ferguson

I realize this could be two different parts. But the truth is that Lynch and Ferguson did really well together against the Broncos in preseason game one. That was against backups of backups. Likely they will both get in the game earlier this week against the Vikings. And Lynch will probably be throwing to Ferguson.

Lynch is battling Geno Smith for the spot to backup Russell Wilson. Smith may or may not play much. He had surgery last week to clear up a cyst on his knee. If Smith comes back and plays against the Vikings he will have to play well but will prove he wants a spot. Normally, a player with Smith’s surgery would miss one to two weeks.

Ferguson is an undrafted free agent fighting (not literally) other receivers for a spot on the 53-man active roster. Keenan Reynolds is a teammate currently and an opponent long-term, for instance. Ferguson needs to show he can use his size and girth against better corners than he did against the Broncos. If he can, he is one step closer to a roster spot.

If Lynch and Ferguson are great on Sunday, excellent. But they will have to prove their merit again next week against the Chargers as well. Good luck to them both, however.
