I am with Mike Salk: Seahawks should trade for Jadeveon Clowney

710 ESPN Seattle’s Mike Salk is adamant the Seahawks should make a trade for Jadeveon Clowney. Salk is right and here is why.

The Seahawks could be good in 2019. They could be very good. But things could go south pretty quickly too. Seattle has defensive issues, like putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and also coverage problems. If Seattle traded for Jadeveon Clowney, he could help fix those quickly. But wait there is more.

Mike Salk is a co-host of 710 ESPN Seattle‘s morning show, Brock and Salk. He has been very opinionated that Seattle should trade for free agent-to-be Clowney. Seattle would have to give up players, high drafts picks or a combination of both. The price would be high. But Salk is right about a possible trade if just for the simple fact that Seattle can win big now just by making the move.

Clowney would not just provide pass rush either. Seattle needs help stopping the run and getting to the opposing quarterback. Frank Clark was applying pressure from defensive end but he wasn’t great against the run. Clowney might be a better run stopper than a pass rusher and that is OK. Like I said, he can do both.

Seattle, of course, traded Clark before this year’s draft. To replace Clark, Seattle signed Ziggy Ansah. Ansah is a good pass rusher too, when healthy. The Seahawks drafted L.J. Collier for a long-term answer at end and Collier – again, if healthy – should be able to help against the run as well. Ansah might be a one year rental and so might Clowney if Seattle traded for him. Collier might not help much as a rookie as most rookie ends don’t produce a lot of sacks.

Because Collier is a rookie (and not yet healthy) and because Seattle could be a good team in 2019, why not trade for Clowney? If Ansah stays healthy and with Clowney on the other end, Seattle might just become a Super Bowl team.

Next. Russell Wilson is better than your favorite team's quarterback. dark

Windows for success in the NFL are short and teams have to stay proactive in their search for greatness. The Seahawks have the cap space for Clowney this season and they have draft collateral to spend in a trade. Mike Salk is correct. Seattle should use their wealth of resources and trade for Clowney and help this season’s team have a chance for a championship.
