The Seahawks are going to be cautious with injuries in the preseason. But the list before Saturday’s Chargers game is not a welcome sight.

On the positive side, the Seahawks do not have an injured Russell Wilson or Bobby Wagner and hopefully that remains the case. It is also possible that some of the players listed on Seattle’s injury list heading into Saturday’s preseason game against the Chargers could play if this was a real game.

Here is the status on those who are banged up and may not play Saturday.

Who’s out

Ziggy Ansah, Seattle’s big free agent signing at defensive end this offseason, hasn’t practiced, let alone played in a preseason game. This is mostly intentional as the Seahawks hope he can be ready for week one of the regular season. He is dealing with a groin injury after overcoming a shoulder problem. Ansah is a fragile player and Seattle has to have him play lots in 2019 so holding him out now is common sense.

George Fant might also be ready for week one of the regular season. Fant suffered an ankle sprain a couple of weeks ago. Coach Pete Carroll said the offensive tackle/tight end needs to be able to practice for a couple of weeks before playing in real action but he expects that to happen soon.

L.J. Collier also has an ankle sprain. Carroll said Collier has resumed running but is not near ready to play in a game. My unfounded expectation is that Collier will miss the early part of the season.

Rookie receiver D.K. Metcalf had some kind of minor knee surgery recently and will not play the rest of the preseason. Carroll thinks he can come back by week one, though. 12s are still waiting to see Wilson and Metcalf hook up deep against someone wearing an opposing uniform.

David Moore is another receiver the Seahawks will be missing. Moore injured his shoulder on Thursday in practice and will be out an indefinite amount of time. Likely, Moore might end up on PUP and miss the first third of 2019.

Mike Iupati is another fragile guy. He has missed a lot of training camp with calf and foot injuries. It could be that Seattle is simply holding him out until the real season. Carroll has said he expects Iupati to play week one against the Bengals.

Rookie safety Marquise Blair hurt his back last week in preseason game 2 and has been suffering back spasms. Blair might end up being a starter by the end of the season, but first he has to show he can get back to playing and stay healthy.

Ed Dickson was hurt to start last year and he is again this season. Dickson costs Seattle about $4 million this season. There is a good chance he won’t be on the roster when week six rolls around.

Also out

Linebacker Shaquem Griffin is a great story but struggled last year and is now hurt. He might be a roster cut before week one.

Jamarco Jones could help the offensive line should he ever make it onto the field. He missed last year and has a hip flexor problem now. He might be ready to play in preseason game four.

Next. 3 Seahawks who must play well on Saturday. dark

Bo Scarbrough has a groin injury. The running back likely will find himself out of the race for making a spot on the roster. He is a big back but simply hasn’t shown enough while with the Seahawks.
