The Seahawks last preseason game of 2019 might have a meaningless outcome. But for certain players it might mean making the roster or not.

The Seahawks roster is mostly set. About 47 or 48 of the players we can assume are on the team in 2019. While Thursday’s final preseason game of 2019 is meaningless as far as who wins or loses, the back end of Seattle’s roster is not meaningless. Every player on the team has a chance to make an impact on this season. And should, to be honest.

Here are three roster battles that might determine who makes Seattle’s team this year and who does not.

Gary Jennings versus Malik Turner versus Jazz Ferguson

Jennings has the lead here. He has to as he is a 2019 draft pick. But he has been outplayed in training camp and in the preseason games by Turner and Ferguson. Ferguson is bigger. Turner doesn’t weight as much but is a bit taller than Jennings and faster.

Still, this battle might be about potential and the Seahawks would not have drafted Jennings had they not thought he had a lot of upside. Jennings caught a pass just out of bounds on a deep post against the Chargers. He also lost his head a bit in the same game when he got a 15-yard penalty for a block against a cornerback who was chasing Russell Wilson when Wilson was going to be way ahead of the defender and out of bounds. Making that block was dumb, against the rules or not.

Ferguson is an undrafted free agent who is a huge receiver but seems to lack speed. He was good in Seattle’s first preseason game against the Broncos’ backups of backups, but in games since and going against better talent he just seems slow.

This is Jennings battle to lose, but if he does poorly and Turner and/or Ferguson look great, all bets are off.
