Predicting who will be the Seahawks MVP and more in 2019
By Lee Vowell
Prior to the Seahawks first game of 2019, here is a silly prediction on who Seattle’s MVP will be. Plus, who will get the most sacks and more!
It’s almost Seahawks week one of 2019, y’all! How psyched are you? I hope quite a bit. Entering this offseason, Seattle was needing a lot of help to get back to being a true Super Bowl contender. Then they made some moves. Trading Frank Clark, signing Ziggy Ansah, trading for Jadeveon Clowney, drafting 5,000 players and so on. Are they a re Super Bowl team? Maybe. Maybe not.
But here is a guess at who would be the best on Seattle’s team in certain categories this year.
Seahawks MVP
This could be an easy one. In any given year this award could go to Russell Wilson or Bobby Wagner. Let me put these players aside as too obvious. I am going to go out on a limb here and say Seattle’s MVP for 2019 is Mychal Kendricks. His versatility will make Seattle’s defense much better than people would anticipate. And he is free to play off Wagner and K.J. Wright.
Rookie of the Year
D.K. Metcalf. Sure, we all want him to be great. But now he actually needs to be good. Seattle has Tyler Lockett at receiver that we assume will be good and then…Those are crickets your are hearing as you read this. Three rookies are in the Seattle receiving room. Metcalf is the most physically gifted of them all. Now he just needs to show it.
Yards receiving
Tyler Lockett. This is a must. If someone other than Lockett gets more receiving yards one of three things has happened. One, Lockett has gotten injured and that would suck. Two, every defense has focused on Lockett and left someone else wide open. Or three, revert back to reason one.
Sacks leader
Surprise! I am going with Mychal Kendricks here. Strange, right? Not really. Kendricks showed in limited time last year that he can pressure the quarterback. A lot of focus will be on Ansah and rightfully so. Clowney has never put up double-digit sacks in a season. I think Ken Norton Jr. gets creative and gets Kendricks involved in the pass rush. Kendricks winds up with 9 sacks, while Clowney and Ansah have 8.5 each and that is just fine.
Second in rushing yards
So, I am not going with the rushing leader here because if everyone stays healthy, Chris Carson will be miles ahead of everyone else on the roster. For giggles, I am predicting that C.J. Prosise ends up with the second most rushing yards. For once, Prosise will stay healthy for nearly an entire year. Rashaad Penny will be OK, but Prosise looks more like Carson than Penny when healthy. Seattle finds a way to use him well.
