Duane Brown and the offensive line

Remember all that talk about the Seahawks offensive line possibly being a strength of the team for once? Well, Cincinnati took that information and shoved it right back in the faces of Seattle. More specifically, the shoved it into the face of Russell Wilson.

Wilson dropped back to pass, if you can actually call it that, 24 times in week one. On 10 of those snaps, he was under pressure. That is 42 percent of the time. 42. According to Pro Football Focus, Wilson had the highest offensive grade against the Bengals. This means Wilson’s raw ability led to a Seattle win as he was getting no help from his line.

Look at the graph above. The second highest Seahawk was D.J. Fluker. Fluker did his job while the rest of the line completely sucked. This includes Pro Bowler Duane Brown who has been the leader on the line since coming to Seattle a couple of years ago. Brown was bad against Cincinnati and has to be better in week two.

The line needs to protect better for Wilson. They also need to open more holes for Chris Carson. Carson averaged 3.1 yards a carry week one. We know he is better than that, if the line doesn’t stop him from being so.

dark. Next. Can Seahawks fix safety issue by making a trade?

If the line can be good against the Steelers in week two, Seattle can win. If they are more like they were in week one, Pittsburgh will beat Seattle by two touchdowns. And nobody who likes the Seahawks wants to see that happen.
