Seahawks offensive grades vs. Rams: Russell Wilson is pretty great again
By Lee Vowell
Watching Russell Wilson play is a joy. The Seahawks are lucky to have him as their quarterback. Once again he was great in victory with some help.
The Seahawks won another 2019 game by one point. Seattle is 4-1 and have won three of their games by a combined four points. But something feels different about Thursday’s victory over the Rams compared to week one against the Bengals.
A lot of Thursday’s victory can be attributed to Seattle’s offensive skill players. This is how the unit graded against Los Angeles.
Quarterback
Russell Wilson has been great for a bunch of years now, of course. But this season I am starting to run out of superlatives. So far this year Wilson has thrown for 12 touchdowns and no picks. Four of those touchdowns came on Thursday. The Seahawks quarterback was 17 of 23 for 268 yards passing, was sacked just once due to his brilliance of eluding the pass rush and he ran for 32 yards more.
Grade: A+
Running back
Chris Carson is in full-on Chris Carson mode now, y’all. After a hundred yard game against a weak Cardinals defense in week four, Carson was even better in week five against the Rams. He ran for for 118 yards on 27 carries and was getting better as the game went on. Carson also caught a touchdown pass, even though he put 12s through the emotional ringer doing so on 4th and goal. Rashaad Penny played and was fairly ineffective and rusty after missing two games.

Grade: A
Receivers/tight end
Tyler Lockett made the catch of the season and put the Seahawks up 7-6 late in the first quarter. Wilson scrambled left and Lockett somehow managed to get both feet down for a touchdown. Lockett caught every one of his four targets for 51 yards. Jaron Brown didn’t have a great game and had a fumble early. D.K. Metcalf caught a 40 yard bomb after Metcalf had out-sprinted everyone to the end zone. David Moore had a touchdown reception too.
Isn’t it time to just say Will Dissly is one of the best five tight ends in the NFL? Sure, he can produce as a receiver but can knock defenders on the butts in run blocking too. He needs to be in the Pro Bowl this season.
Grade: B+ because of Brown’s fumble
Offensive line
OK, the Seahawks did score 30 points, but the offensive line still wasn’t great. Wilson made so many improvised plays that other, more mortal, quarterbacks don’t. He saved the line from looking even worse. Still, the line was playing with Jamarco Jones at guard and he had never played there in a game so take that for what it’s worth.
