Seahawks could get the game’s best at this position

Chris Harris Jr. is generally considered to be one of the league’s very best slot corners, if not the absolute best. Seattle already has a decent player in that role in Jamar Taylor, but he’s not at the level of Harris. The Broncos corner is pricey, as his salary for the year is $9.8 million. He’s also 30 years old, which makes two strikes against the Seahawks dealing for him. We all know how much Seattle values secondary players in their thirties, right?

Balancing these potential drawbacks, we have two facts in his favor. First, he’s really good. Harris has 20 interceptions and 84 pass defenses in his career. Among those interceptions, he has four pick-sixes, something the Seahawks could use more of in their secondary. As in, at least one would be nice. We can’t count on Jadeveon Clowney to pull off that magic trick again.

The second key to bringing Harris to Seattle is that he’s a free agent next season. The Hawks won’t be locked into a high salary and can make the decision in the offseason whether he’s worth the price he’ll likely demand. That’s assuming he balls out as he has for his entire career. It’s worth noting that Quandre Diggs can also play the slot corner, so this trade could be a bit of a luxury for the Hawks.
