Seahawks grades are a mixed bag even in defeat of 49ers
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks defeated the 49ers in week 10 to move to 8-2. But Seattle wasn’t perfect and these week 10 grades show exactly why.
The Seahawks defeated the 49ers in week 10. Now Seattle is 8-2 and San Francisco is 8-1. Seattle is within reach of the NFC West division lead. Or completely falling out of the playoff picture based on the remaining schedule. Still, here are the grades for Seattle from their Monday Night Football victory.
Quarterback – Russell Wilson
Wilson was good enough to win. I don’t mean that to sound like he wasn’t good. Wilson was better than most every other quarterback in the NFL against a very good defense on Monday. Did he throw an interception (just his SECOND of the season!) and fumble? Yes. But he also made plays to put Seattle in a position to win that other quarterbacks are incapable of doing.
Grade: B+
Running backs
Talk about mixed bags, I give you your Seahawks running backs. Chris Carson ran for 89 yards and a touchdown against a defense schemed to stop him. He was good, except for another fumble. His seeming 188th of the season. Rashaad Penny carried twice and fumbled once. There is a reason Carson is the only Seattle running back that matters.
Grade: B-
Receivers/Tight ends
The receivers are kind of group in transition. Josh Gordon played, got targeted twice and caught both of them for a first down. He will be important in coming weeks if he can stay clean. D.K. Metcalf caught six passes but also dropped one he should have caught that would have been an important first down. Jacob Hollister had 8 catches. And Malik Turner had a massive first down after Tyler Lockett left with an injury.
Grade: B
Offensive line
This was a game of oddity for the line. Duane Brown gets props for making a possible game saving tackle on the 49ers when Wilson threw an interception in overtime. Wilson was sacked four times. Germain Ifedi picked up a Wilson fumble and tried to…Well, I am not sure. But he fumbled it too and the 49ers ran it back for a touchdown. At the end of the game, however, the Seahawks had outgained the 49ers in yards per play 4.6 to 3.9 and a lot of that can be attributed to the offensive line.
Grade: B-
Defensive line
Boo-yah! Jadeveon Clowney is a freak, y’all! He had about 175 quarterback hits, was in the 49ers backfield on seemingly every quarterback dropback and he affected the game. Sign this man, John Schneider! Jarran Reed had his best game of the season. Quinton Jefferson continued his stellar year. By the end of the contest, of the Seahawks’ 10 quarterback hits, the line had 9 of them.
Grade: A
Linebackers
K.J. Wright should have had an interception than ended the game but let the ball go through his hands. Bobby Wagner led the Seahawks with 11 tackles. Mychal Kendricks was active but had a bad personal foul go against him.

Grade: B
Secondary
So, Seattle clearly made a big pickup getting Quandre Diggs. His presence was impactful. He had huge hits and an interception. Shaquill Griffin had an important pass defended when he seemed beat but wasn’t.
Grade: B
Special teams
Jason Myers! 3 for 3 and a game winning field goal. Twice because the 49ers called a late timeout on the first one he made. Michael Dickson may have had one not-so-great kick but also pushed the 49ers back often. That’s his job.
