Seahawks grades week 14: The Rams expose Seattle weaknesses
By Lee Vowell
Defense
The Rams scored 21 points in the first half and just 7 points afterward. In fact, the Seahawks actually outscored Los Angeles 9-7 in the second half. But by halftime, all the damage was done.
Defensive line
Seattle seemed to be on their heels all of the first half, hardly ever getting set and allowing the Rams to dictate pace and style of play. The Seahawks tried to react instead of taking control. Sure, Seattle was without Ziggy Ansah, but Ansah has been inconsistent all season. Jadeveon Clowney, who has been mostly great, had two offsides penalties and just two tackles with no quarterback hits. Quinton Jefferson was the only defensive lineman who did OK with 2 quarterback hits.
Grade: D
Linebackers
Bobby Wagner was in on 14 tackles. That’s a good number but for a bad reason. The Rams were constantly downfield requiring Wagner to make plays. Cody Barton played instead of injured Mychal Kendricks. While he seemed to do OK, his inexperience probably cost the Seahawks on a few plays.
Grade: C-
Secondary
There was Quandre Diggs and then everyone else in the Seahawks secondary. Diggs had two interceptions, returning one for Seattle’s only touchdown of the game. Shaquill Griffin got beat several times and Tre Flowers was in poor position a lot. Bradley McDougald had 6 tackles and one for loss. The Rams averaged 9.2 yards per pass.
Grade: D
Special teams
Michael Dickson had five punts and three were downed inside the Rams 20. But Jason Myers missed an extra point and still seems a bit shaky. Seattle got nothing from its return game and David Moore almost had a fumble that the Rams would have picked up and run in for a touchdown. He was lucky Ugo Amadi fell on it.
