Offensive Player of the Season (non-quarterback)

Nearly any team could say their offensive player of the year was the quarterback because the quarterback has the ball in his hands every offensive snap and is, therefore, the most important player on the field. Of course, with the Seahawks there is an even greater need for Russell Wilson to be fantastic almost every game. But Seattle does have other offensive weapons.

For Seattle’s offensive player of the year (non-quarterback version) I am going with running back Chris Carson. Carson finished with 1,230 yards rushing, which was fifth in the league. He set a career high in that category. Carson also set a career high in rushing attempts (278), receptions (37) and yards from scrimmage (1,496).

Six times Carson ran for over 100 yards in a game this year. At times he created yards out of seemingly nothing. This was the biggest difference between Seattle’s offense with Carson and the offense late in the year with Marshawn Lynch. Lynch at this stage of his career doesn’t have Carson’s young legs and lacks the same ability to get 5 yards when only 1 yard is available to most backs.

Carson injured his hip in week 16 but should be ready by the beginning of next year. He will be a needed cog in the Seahawks offensive machine if Seattle has any hope of making the Super Bowl in 2020.
