Seattle Seahawks: 5 players who could be in final season with team
By Lee Vowell
L.J. Collier
L.J. Collier is an odd one. He was a rookie in 2019 but one that was probably drafted a bit too high. He only accumulated 3 tackles in his rookie season, no sacks and no pressures. That is a complete failure.
Collier will still be under a rookie contract for the next few seasons, but since he was a first round choice, he will make $2.4 million next year and $3.4 million by 2022. Likely, Collier, whether he is good or bad, will be on the Seahawks roster in 2021 because his cap space outweighs his cash payout, but Seattle might see that he simply is never going to fit correctly and choose to trade him.
If Collier only gets 20 tackles and 3 sacks in 2020, it will be an improvement. But likely not what Seattle needs. Seattle might try shopping him for a mid-round pick to another team. It could be that a fourth round choice in 2021 ends up being more productive long-term for Seattle than first round 2019 choice Collier.
My hope is that Collier in 2020 becomes the player the Seahawks hoped he would be. But if he turns out to replicate his 2019 season, Collier, no matter the cap hit, isn’t worth having on the 2021 roster.
