2013 Seahawks best team of the decade says Football Outsiders

Football Outsiders put out their list of the best teams of the 2010s according to their DVOA algorithm’s and the 2013 Seahawks topped all teams.

12s know this truth is real. The 2013 Seahawks were the best team in the NFL in the 2010s and one of the best ever. In 2013, Seattle had the best defense in the league, maybe ever. Seattle had a second-year quarterback in Russell Wilson who could quite easily end up in the Hall of Fame one day. And he wasn’t even the focus of the offense yet.

The 2013 Seattle Seahawks were beasts not to be reckoned with.

Football Outsiders, an excellent site with tons of football research with ties to ESPN, announced their top five teams of the 2010s and Seattle wasn’t just once in the top five but three times. Three!

Even better, according to Football Outsiders’ DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) readings, the Seahawks had three of the best four teams in the 2010s. Almost makes a 12 feel like maybe Seattle should have won more than one Super Bowl in the last decade.

Defense wins championships!

The important thing here – besides the fact that the Seahawks rock! – is that a big reason Seattle is rated as highly as they are is because of how great the defense was last decade. Wilson is a great quarterback. Marshawn Lynch was a great running back. But the defense is what truly led the Seahawks to back to back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014.

For Seattle to get back to even their 2014 level, they need a better defense in 2020. The offense is good enough to win lots of games. But if the defense is better than 12s could be talking about looking at Football Outsiders 2020s list and seeing their beloved Seahawks in the top five teams of the next decade too.
