Jacob Green

Jacob Green is still the Seahawks all-time sack master. He had 97.5 in his career, and sacks were not even an official NFL statistic in his first two seasons. Five times in his career Green had seasons of 12 or more sacks. What Seattle wouldn’t have given to had that kind of production out of some player last year.

Green played on the same teams that Largent did so the two played in frustration together. While Green wasn’t the superstar Largent was, he was consistent as a metronome. Between 1983 and 1988, Green never had less than 9 sacks in a season. And in 1987, due to the NFL strike, he played in only 12 games but had 9.5 sacks so with four more games he might have had 12 or more.

As I said, Green is Seattle’s all-time leader in sacks. The next closest guy, Michael Sinclair, has 24 fewer at 73.5. The player on the Seahawks 2020 roster who has the most career sacks in a Seattle uniform is Bobby Wagner with 19.5. Seattle needs its defensive linemen to be a lot more like Jacob Green this year.

14 of the NFL’s top 36 all-time sack leaders were not playing when Green retired in 1992. Why do I specify 36? Because this is where Green ranks in NFL history in official sacks. Meaning, when he retired he was no worse than 22nd on the list. That is how good he was.
