Seahawks news: For better or worse training camp is officially on
By Lee Vowell
In Seahawks news, while COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc with people’s lives, the NFL has decided training camp must go on as scheduled this month.
Want some possibly unexpected Seahawks news? Training camps will go on as scheduled starting July for all NFL teams. This is unexpected because many players, like the Seahawks Quandre Diggs, have expressed doubt that training camp should occur as the rate of COVID-19 isn’t slowing down in many states where the NFL has teams.
In a memo from NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent to coaches and general managers, Vincent stated the current schedule for training camp will stay in place, health of the players be damned.
I am sure there will be lots of private COVID-19 testing the players will have to abide by and rules put in place in case of player tests positive. But to be sure, the NFL will force the 2020 season upon players and fans alike because these NFL owners need their money!
The schedule lies out thusly. Rookies will report to Seahawks camp on July 21st, Russell Wilson and his backups, as well as injured players, will report on July 23rd and the rest of the players will report on July 28th.
Seattle will likely have fewer players come to camp this year to limit exposure to COVID-19. This means less of a chance for undrafted free agents to make the team. There also may be a change to how many preseason games are played and this will limit a player’s ability to make the team and a rookies development.
But the main thing is that players and coaches and anyone who works for the Seahawks organization need to be kept safe and the NFL moving forward with training camp as scheduled does not really do that.
