Reaction to Jamal Adams being with Seahawks is a bit comical
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks have, of course, acquired safety Jamal Adams. And the reaction to that and Adams saying he wants to retire in Seattle is a bit silly.
Guess what, NFL fans who don’t have the Seahawks as their number one favorite, Jamal Adams plays for Seattle whether you like it or not. Oddly, though, some of the more notable reaction to Adams joining the Seahawks has been from Adams’ former teammates, players affiliated with his former team or NFC West opponents.
Nick Mangold
For instance, Nick Mangold, who the New York Post called a former Jet “great,” laughed via Twitter at Adams saying he “plans to retire” with Seattle. It should be noted here that Mangold, while a seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro at center for the Jets, wouldn’t really know what it is like to play on a winner.
Just like Adams didn’t know what it was like in New York either. This is one reason Adams wanted to leave. Who wants to play their entire career with a team that never wins its division, for instance?
Mangold played for the Jets from 2006 through 2016 and his teams finished second, their best finish in the AFC East the entire time Mangold played for New York, six times. Mangold’s teams made the playoffs three times in his career. New York won four playoff games. Mangold’s teams didn’t make the playoffs the last six years he played.
Of course, the Seahawks probably were laughing at the 2013 Jets teams that went 8-8 during a span of four consecutive seasons while Seattle was winning a Super Bowl that year. Adams wants to play for a franchise that cares about winning. That isn’t New York.
George Kittle
On the flip side of this is NBC Sports misleading title of an article about how 49ers tight end might be mocking the Seahawks getting Adams. The title of the post on Google is “Kittle’s reaction to Seahawks’ Adams trade is peak Kittle”. But you click on the article and it is actually Kittle saying how “excited” he is to face Adams.
Kittle’s knows the NFC West is tough. And it just got tougher now that Seattle has a player worthy of matching up with the 49ers tight end. San Francisco doesn’t own the NFC West. Now that the Seahawks have Adams, Seattle just might.
