L.J. Collier

I know that supposedly L.J. Collier was injured in his rookie year of 2019 and this was the main reason he was extremely ineffective. He also came in out of shape and did not seem to really grasp what it meant to be an NFL player and the kind of shape one needed to be in. This offseason, Collier lost some weight and added muscle. Plus, he seems healthy.

But what is quizzical is that the Seahawks held Collier out of the team’s first practice after the team’s first mock scrimmage this training camp. Collier wasn’t mentioned as being hurt. It could be that Collier is doing something that is not sitting well with the coaching staff.

Collier talked a good game this offseason about making more of a concerted effort to be better in year two and making sure that Seattle never regretted taking him in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. Seattle likely would not give up on Collier so easily, but if there is something going on behind the scenes as far as attitude or motivation then Collier could be cut.

The Seahawks letting go of Collier would save the team $2.4 million in cap space but would cost the team over $7 million in dead cap. So if the Seahawks do let Collier go they would have to have a good reason.
