It’s a new year and a fresh start for the Seattle Seahawks. We’re only one week into the season and Seattle has already made some intriguing changes on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

The ‘let Russ cook’ movement continues to take full effect for the Seahawks. After defeating the Atlanta Falcons on the road 38-35, Seattle now faces a tough home opener against the New England Patriots.

The game won’t come easy but Seattle has a bit of some fantasy heroes to help seal the win.

Seahawks to watch

Russell Wilson

The only week you shouldn’t be starting Russell Wilson in fantasy football is BYE week. Last week, Wilson went OFF against the Atlanta Falcons throwing for four touchdowns on 322 yards and an 88.57% completion percentage. While Wilson has put up such impressive numbers before, this was truly the first time Seattle seemed to prioritize their passing game during the Pete Carroll era.

Even though Seattle is facing a drastically different and more seasoned secondary against the Patriots, the ball should continue to be trusted in Russell Wilson’s hands.

Chris Carson

Seattle’s run game has to remain a top aspect of their offense, even if they are going to continue to let Russell Wilson sling it out more. Chris Carson has shown time and time again that he can lead the Seahawks in the run. Last week, he actually had a more successful game catching the ball than running the ball. But facing a better secondary this week might force Seattle to alter their new-found philosophy a bit and hand the ball off a little more to Carson.

The Patriots didn’t have as a great of a run defense in their opening week and it will be interesting to see just how Seattle attacks that. Even so, I would expect the Seahawks to continue utilizing Carson in both the run and passing games, especially after his two-touchdown performance last game.

D.K. Metcalf

D.K. Metcalf had a solid first game of 2020 even despite catching only 50% of his targets. He ultimately finished with four receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown. He averaged 23.75 yards per reception, showing off his efficiency to pick up great yardage.

There are still a few drop concerns for Metcalf in his second season but not starting him could mean you’re missing out on big plays like his 45-yard touchdown on fourth down in Atlanta.

Greg Olsen

When the Seahawks signed veteran Greg Olsen earlier this year, it was a bit of an interesting sight. The position of tight end was an area Seattle was still trying to sort out. It wasn’t necessarily a shock that they bring in a veteran as talented as Greg Olsen, the question was just how much mileage Olsen had left in the tank.

Then came week one, and Olsen proved he could still be a playmaker on the offense. Olsen ended up catching all of his four targets for 24 yards and one touchdown. It wasn’t a lot but it was just enough to help the Seahawks offense move the chains. He finished with 12.40 fantasy points according to NFL.com.

Olsen can be another great utilization for Seattle against the Patriots. He can continue to be used as a bit of a safety blanket for Russell Wilson to dump it off to. Even if he isn’t gaining large chunks of yards, yielding in short-yardage plays can be just as effective.
