Seahawks rookies will help determine the outcome in week three.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll stated in the days leading to the week three game versus the Cowboys that rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks will make his first start. This might seem meaningless to the general NFL fan, but for a Seattle defensive rookie to be announced as a starter means something. And what that means is that the Seattle coaching staff trusts Brooks to do good things.

But it doesn’t stop there. Seattle is expected to activate defensive end Alton Robinson for his first game as well. Robinson was a healthy scratch in the Seahawks first two games. But due to injuries to Rasheem Green and Bruce Irvin, Robinson should get some playing time against the Cowboys.

Seattle will also start, of course, right guard Damien Lewis who should be starting in Seattle for many years to come barring any kind of injury. He is the third-highest graded run blocker in the NFL in 2020 so far. Not among rookies but among all guards.

Rookie receiver Freddie Swain made a mark in week two when he looked a lot like Tyler Lockett when he caught a pass from Russell Wilson and ran the catch in for a touchdown. He doesn’t have many targets yet, but he could get a lot more as the season goes on.

Seahawks rookies will make a difference week three

My point in all this is that for the first time in many years, several Seahawks rookies should be making immediate and long-term impacts on the team. Brooks could and maybe should, if he proves he can be good for the rest of the year, be a starter in 2021. K.J. Wright could be gone after this season.

Robinson has every chance to get pressure on Cowboys Dak Presoctt in week three, and if he can he should get lots of reps this season.

Swain could be the slot receiver in Seattle for at least four years if he can build on his week two performance.

But in week three, my feeling is that Brooks will use his speed and tenaciousness to make a big hit or two. Robinson will get at least two quarterback pressures is my guess. Swain will have two catches and one for a first down. And Lewis will punish Dallas defensive tackles and open holes for Chris Carson and company to pick up rushing yards.
