The Seattle Seahawks improved to 3-0 after defeating the Dallas Cowboys, 38-31, in America’s Game of the Week.

The Seattle Seahawks are now 3-0 for the first time since 2013. Of course, in 2013, the Seahawks went on to win the super bowl for the first time in franchise history; a result the many 12s are wishing for this year.

In yet another thrilling game, the Seahawks pulled through improving their one-score record to 2-0 on the year. While it was not all pretty, all that matters is the Seahawks won. Here we examine 5 takeaways from the third victory of the year.

Tre Flowers is still not ready to be a starter

It really does hurt me to say this, but Tre Flowers is still not ready to be a starter. After a surprising injury report that had Quinton Dunbar sidelined, it was known that Flowers would be starting at CB2. On Friday, Pete Carroll thought Dunbar would be good to go on Sunday, but I guess his soreness evolved into some serious pain over the weekend causing him to miss the game.

Regardless, Flowers’ struggled last year as a starter in this defense. He had his moments, making big plays but, for the most part, he struggled in the secondary. In Sunday’s game, he showed why the Seahawks traded for Dunbar.

While the Seahawks were enjoying a 30-22 lead, Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, hit wideout, Michael Gallup, on a 43-yard bomb to inch closer to tying the game. Flowers was immediately beaten off the line as he was pressing and recovered late. The ball was actually thrown behind Gallup, but he was still able to catch it as he had 3-4 steps on Flowers.

Later on the game, on a big third down, Flowers, now being scared of getting beat over the top, sagged off leaving Gallup all the space up front to do a simple hitch route and get enough for the first down. The Seahawks struggled to stop the Dallas’ offense in the 2nd half and it was mainly because the backend was not doing its job of forcing enough incompletions to get the offense the ball back.

I really do like Tre Flowers. I think he has potential and fits this Seahawks scheme perfectly with his skillset. His confidence needs to be worked on and after yesterday’s game, I’m sure it took another hit. Let’s hope for the best with this young man as he is capable of helping this Seattle defense.
